LUKAS GRAHAM - 7 YEARS

LUKAS GRAHAM! Anyone who is familiar with this name will definitely DEFINITELY heard their sleeper hit 7 years. I call it a sleeper hit because the radio stations have NEVER EVER played any Scandinavian hit unless it is really really big worldwide. Only recently I start hearing a few, one being Lukas Graham's 7 Years and another one being Zara Larsson's Lush Life and Never Forget You.

What took me by surprise the most is when a Scandinavian hit is so big until it could hit the shores here, I would have expect a typical Scandinavian electro synth pop disco sort of genre. Well, basically most chart topping songs are made up of that genre (with Adele and Sam Smith as exception). It is very very rare that a ballad could top charts at a national level today, what more worldwide, what more coming from a Scandinavian country. I guess the reason this song got big because it is emotional, not the sappy kind, and it's very relatable to a lot of people.

Most of the Scandinavian songs that I feature, and will be featuring will mostly belong to a synth pop disco genre. That's the reason why I got into this at the first place. Lukas Graham is an exception. First listen to 7 years it gave me the impression this is a strong and pretty impressive ballad. Only when it hit mainstream radios then I paid more attention and realized there was more to it.

Inspired by the passing of his father, frontman Lukas Graham Forchhammer described this song about his past, present and future life, ranging from 7 years old till 60 years old. The reason he stopped at 60 because his father passed at 61. According to officialcharts.com, he thinks he needs to pass it to believe it.

In the article, Forchhammer further detailed "It's a song about growing older. I'm also coming to a realisation that being a father is the most important thing. My biggest dream is not to be some negative old dude, but to have my kids' friends say, 'You're going to visit your dad? Say hi! He’s awesome.' I had a perfect father."

The music video for 7 Years also projected imageries from Lukas Graham's life in LA, Copenhagen and their hometown Christiana. Accompanied with the original raw emotions of the song, the music video elevated the emotions to a tear jerking level. Otherwise, you're not human. Kidding, otherwise you will definitely set this song on replay at least, AT LEAST 5 times. Wanna bet?

Lukas Graham self-titled debut album will be out April 1st 2016, be sure to check it out!
