If you're looking for Roald Dahl's "Matilda - The Ghost", sorry to disappoint folks. I'm talking about Matilda Gressberg from Eidskog, Norway, back with her new track "Ghost".

Although approaching summer, this song gives out a spring vibe. First listening to it, it's hard not to imagine that it's another "ah-here-we-go-again" young, mainstream, indie pop recipe. One might easily mistake Matilda as Astrid S. Effervescent voice? check. Looping hooks? check. (Blonde? check.) But, the chorus is the game changer.

The melody has a heartwarming tune, adding in the background choir, it pulls the heart string at its right chord. Turns out, this song called "Ghost" is not creepy at all.

As the song consistently builds up, it falls back by replacing the drums with acoustic guitars that had you almost convincing yourself this is a gospel track. Clearly, producer Kristoffer Tømmerbakke has done a great job at crafting this pleasant surprise.

So I dived in a little bit more into Matilda's music. Turns out, "Ghost" is her new transition from acoustic ballads. However, instead of losing herself into the mainstream synth pop abyss, Matilda stick with her acoustic origins and created this beautiful chemistry.

Nevertheless, her acoustic ballads are equally beautiful. Too teenage pop? Thank her later when you need someone to warm your heart.
