TUNDRAN - STILL AFRAID

The greatest attraction of Scandinavian pop music to me has got to be the indie, synth pop, disco sound. One of my absolute favourite is Oliver Nelson, a Swedish DJ on the rise. Fortunately yesterday I have discovered another great band that strongly reminds me of Oliver Nelson and RAC with their single, Still Afraid. Hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, it's Swedish duo Jakob and Felix, or Tundran.
The beginning of the song reminds me of the 80s ballad It Might Be You by Stephen Bishop. Starting by setting listeners in a dreamy mood, the instruments and elements gradually layer up, bringing listeners to 5 minutes of 70s soulful and disco bliss.
Contrary to its joyful groovy beats, the chorus sings "I'm still afraid of being in love" and "I'm still afraid of giving up". According to an interview with The Feldman Agency, Jakob, one half of the duo mentioned that this song is a mixture of "pure joy and melancholy" that "touches on both ends of the spctrum."
This odd combination or rather a refreshing experiment proves to be a success for the single. After its demo was accidentally made to public on their label, PRMD Music's SoundCloud, Still Afraid has garnered an overwhelmingly positive response. Later on at the official premiere of the song on EDM.com, Still Afraid was played over 250k times on SoundCloud.
Apparently this song was released back in 2014 and fans have been requesting on their Facebook page to release it on Spotify. Therefore, along with another half of their double single Last Drive, Still Afraid was released on February this year, AND hence introducing me to this disco duo.
With the increasing popularity of Still Afraid and sharing the same label as Avicii and Cazzette, I am definitely looking forward to more of Tundran's music.
