I'm not gonna lie the talent of the Swedish 3 disco musketeers, or they like to call it Swedish Disco Mafia, daunts me. Maybe it's because nu-disco seems is my favourite genre out of the Scandinavian pop music. Just see how I fangirled over Oliver Nelson in my previous post then you'll understand.
So previously I've dedicated a post to one of the three musketeers, today it's about the other one called Skogsrå, or you might recognized him from Oliver Nelson's "Found Your Love" as Heir.
While I was researching and learning about Skogsrå, the musician, I realized that Skogsrå is actually a seductive mythical creature in Swedish folklore. As he put it this way on his description, "The Skogsrå is a stunningly beautiful, naked woman with long hair; though from behind she is hollow like an old tree trunk, with an animal's tail.As survivors have testified, the Skogsrå seduces young men into her forest, rewarding those who satisfy her while killing those who do not. One who has spent a night with the Skogsrå will most likely find himself taciturn and incommunicative - for his soul is forever surrendered to her."
Interestingly Skogsrå also summed up his description this way, "My heart forever surrendered.⎪森の怪妖精⎪". I'm not precisely sure why use this name, but my guess is the long hair Skogsrå keeps is an ode to this seductive forest creature ;)
Alright enough with speculations, let's talk about awesome this song is! Also hailing from Sweden, unsurprisingly and undisappointingly (is that even a word?!) Skogsrå's debut single"Now You See Me" is a funky disco-filled track. Even though lyrically this is a sad song, but its music wants you to feel otherwise.
Contrary to the studio version which stands at almost 5 minutes, the music video is sort of like the extended version of the song. For the first 3 minutes it depicts a nostalgic vibe of Venice which probably could pass as a Venice promotional tourism advertisement. The fascinating part comes when the song starts to dramatically build up for the second half of the video. I don't see any correlation between the artsy cuts and the song but oddly enough the vision and audio seem to pair really really well which makes the video even more engaging. It exudes more emotion than purely a disco groove.
Can I have more of Skogsrå please? Yes I know he has released but VIDEOS! Pretty please?
